Past Community Service Activities
1.) Event: Help Make Valentines!
When: Monday, February 9th @ 5 PM
Where: Joe's Cafeteria (First floor in the Jamail Student Center)
Other info: We will be making valentines with inspirational notes that will be delivered to the residents at the Edgewater Retirement home on Thursday, the 12th
-Food and drinks will be provided!!!
-This will be a joint event with the Blocker Osler Society, so come make valentines and eat free food!
-We need at least 10 more volunteers!
-If you have extra construction paper, scissors, and/or markers, please bring them!
2.) Event: Valentine's Day visit to a local Retirement Home
When: Thursday, February 12th @ 11:30 - 12:30 PM (or as long as you can stay)
Where: Edgewater Retirement Home 2228 Seawall Blvd. (Close to UTMB campus!)
Other Info: We will be passing out our fabulous valentines to the residents at Edgewater Retirement Home as they make their way into/out of the cafeteria.
-If you can play the piano or if you would be willing to sing for the residents, PLEASE e-mail me! We need talented students to entertain the residents! (It's a fairly casual setting)
-This is a joint event with the Blocker Osler Society
-It was a lot of fun last year! The residents really enjoyed spending time with us!
3.) Event: UTMB Residency Fair
When: Thursday, February 26th (Time TBA, most likely 12 - 1 PM)
Where: Joe's Cafeteria (First floor in the Jamail Student Center)
Other Info: We are needed to help meet/greet and point people in the right direction during the Residency Fair
-Feel free to come and check out the different residency programs, even if you don't have time to volunteer!
-Refreshments should be provided
-We need 3 people for this event!
4.) Event: Galveston County Health Fair
When: Saturday, March 28th (See available volunteer times below)
Where: in Galveston (location TBA - maybe the Convention Center)
Other Info: We REALLY need people to help this year since they are having a hard time recruiting volunteers due to Ike displacing everyone.
- The health fair is held each year and has a number of outreach and UTMB programs that participate.
- We will be passing out flyers at our table with info about cervical cancer and how to get free vaccines from Galveston Co Teen Health Clinics.
- We have an info board for visitors to read too.
Available Volunteer Times:
1. Help with Fair set-up (7 or 8 AM - 9 AM) - we will get more information in a few weeks regarding the time to arrive.
-So far we have ONE person signed up! We need at least 5 or 6 volunteers!
2.) AMWA's HPV Info booth 12:30 PM - 4 PM shift
-We need two more volunteers at the booth!
3.) Help with Fair clean-up (3:30 - 5 PM or earlier) - we will get more information in a few weeks regarding clean-up
-NO ONE has signed up for this! We need at least 5 or 6 volunteers!
